How about some real friends? People you can actually talk with and go places with? This is not speed dating but rather an innocent, respectful way of finding men and women you might want to be friends with.
It’s tough in California. People don’t know their neighbors and they don’t acknowledge strangers, so here’s your chance to break through that glass wall.
You’ll have several minutes to chat with someone, then we’ll all change conversation partners and do it again. The format is the same as speed dating but without the burden of potential romance. Give this a try.
Hosted by Susan M
Sacramento Freethinkers, Atheists and Nonbelievers (FAN)
Would you like to get acquainted with even more nonbelievers? Be the greeter at the monthly SacFAN/AOF meeting. You’ll have adhesive name badges and a marker, and as people come through the door, you’ll have a legitimate reason to say, “Hi, I’m _______. What’s your name?” Then you write the person’s name on the tag. Soon, you know more people and more people know you. Those name tags are a very welcome memory aid to a lot of people. Haven’t you ever struggled to remember somebody’s name?
Fred Rogers—yes, THE Mr. Rogers—said it’s important when people arrive and it’s important when people leave. That’s why well mannered people strive to greet arrivals, and later give them a warm send-off. You know how good it feels to help people feel good, so here’s an opportunity to practice and maybe even teach somebody how to do it. Are you in? Yes? Then tell Susan (who introduces the speakers) that you’d like to help welcome people as they arrive for the meeting.
We’re suggesting a donation of $3 per person to help pay for renting the Reason Center. Find the big plastic donation jug labeled “Reason Center Donations” (it’ll be at the snack table) and stuff your bucks in there. Even humble SacFAN has to pay to use Reason Center. If you can’t donate, come anyway. The important thing is for you to be there so you can meet your new friends. This is truly a wonderful group of people.
The Reason Center’s expenses (rent, electricity, maintenance, security, insurance) are the infrastructure that helps SacFAN, AOF, Sunday Assembly Sacramento, and others thrive.
The Reason Center is the ONLY venue in the region dedicated to freethought, agnosticism, non-theism, non-belief, rationality, skepticism, atheism, Humanism, and other flavors of non-religiosity. It’s open for you and any friends you’d like to bring, so to continue the Reason Center’s tradition of success, donate as generously as you can. All donations are very much appreciated. The Reason Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so all donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by IRS regulations. Visit:
Atheists and Other Freethinkers (AOF) is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports, among other things, the AOF/SacFAN Speaker Series, which is what you’ve enjoyed for the last few years at this monthly general meeting, which happens on the last Sunday of every month at the Reason Center, rain or shine, with or without plagues of locusts.
AOF membership forms are at the Reason Center and online. Memberships are:
$10/year for low-income individuals,
$20/year for non-low-income individuals,
$30/year for families, and
$50/year for the Patron level membership.

Bring a snack or beverage to the meeting to share if you can. Breaking bread is a time-honored path to friendship.
Reason Center is committed to the promotion of critical thinking and secular values. In partnership with other secular groups and organizations, it hosts knowledgeable and engaging speakers discussing a wide range of related topics.
