The media landscape has become increasingly fragmented and pretty crazy in recent years, including the broadcast networks, news websites, opinion websites, and social media. There is some facts in there, but much of it is spin or hype or sentimentalization or just plain concocted falsehoods and fringe conspiracy theories (QAnon, etc.) How do we deal with all of this? How can we sort out fact from fiction? What do we do about all the people who believe really weird things? Can social media be tamed? Should it be? Should we curtail social media platforms that allow violent hate speech to be propagated? Would any such actions violate the first amendment?

We will meet at the gazebo at McKinley park. This is a large covered structure near the basketball courts and near the playground. It is just to the south of the big building there, kind of in the middle of the park.

We have a 10 person limit, social distanced. Please only RSVP here if you are able to come to the event.
